**Content:**

A California seller’s permit is the registration you need from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) before you sell or lease goods that are normally subject to sales tax. The CDTFA does not charge for a seller’s permit, you can apply online at cdtfa.ca.gov, and once it is issued you are responsible for collecting sales tax and filing returns on the schedule the CDTFA gives you. Who needs a seller’s permit in California? You need a seller’s permit in California if you are engaged in business selling or leasing tangible personal property that would ordinarily be taxable when sold at retail. That covers more businesses than people expect: Retail stores, salons that sell products, and restaurants, cafes and food trucks. Online sellers shipping from California, including sellers on marketplaces. Wholesalers. The CDTFA states that both wholesalers and retailers must apply for a permit, even if every sale is for resale. Pop-up and seasonal sellers, who apply for a temporary seller’s permit. The CDTFA issues these for selling operations that normally last no longer than 90 days at one location. You generally do not need one if your only sales are occasional, which the CDTFA describes as no more than two sales in a 12-month period, or if you sell only services that are not taxable. Is a California resale license the same as a seller’s permit? Yes. California does not issue a separate “resale license” or “wholesale license” for sales tax. The seller’s permit is what lets you sell at wholesale or retail, and it is also what lets you buy inventory without paying tax to your supplier. You do that by giving the supplier a resale certificate (CDTFA form 230 is the standard version) that carries your seller’s permit number. A resale certificate is only for goods you intend to resell. The CDTFA warns that issuing one for items you do not plan to resell is a misdemeanor. How much does a seller’s permit cost in California? A seller’s permit in California is free. The CDTFA may, however, ask for a security deposit to cover sales tax you might not pay later. Whether one is required, and how much, depends on your type of business and your expected taxable sales, and the CDTFA sets the amount when you apply. Ask about it before you open, so a deposit request does not catch your cash flow by surprise. How to apply for a seller’s permit in California Gather your detailsYour Social Security number, date of birth and driver’s license or state ID; your business entity details if you have an LLC or corporation; bank and supplier names; and your expected monthly sales and how much of it is taxable. Register onlineOn cdtfa.ca.gov, choose to register a new business activity and select the seller’s permit. You can also apply in person at a CDTFA office. List every locationIf you sell from more than one place of business, you may need a separate permit for each one. Give the…

**Content:**

Tax resolution means getting a tax problem with the IRS, the California Franchise Tax Board or the CDTFA closed out: the notice answered, the audit finished, the balance on a payment plan, and penalties removed where the rules allow. At TT Tax, that work is done by Kathy Nguyen, an IRS Enrolled Agent (license 112737), from our office at 12112 Brookhurst St in Garden Grove. You talk to the person handling your case, not a call center. Why use a local Enrolled Agent for tax resolution? An Enrolled Agent is licensed by the IRS itself and can represent you before the IRS on audits, collections and appeals. Once you sign a power of attorney (IRS Form 2848), the IRS talks to us instead of you. Many national tax relief companies advertise on radio and TV, take your case over the phone and hand it to whoever is free. We work the other way: The Enrolled Agent who reviews your case is the one who signs the letters and takes the calls. You can sit across the desk from us in Garden Grove, or work by phone and secure upload. We tell you at the first meeting what the realistic options are, including when you do not need us. Federal and California problems are handled together, because an IRS issue often has an FTB issue behind it. Tax resolution services we provide IRS, FTB and CDTFA notices Send us the letter. We read it, pull your return and records, and tell you whether the agency is right. Where it is wrong, we respond in writing with the paperwork to prove it. Where it is right, we work out the cheapest way to close it. IRS audit representation We prepare the documents the examiner asked for, answer questions on your behalf, and keep the audit to the years and items in the notice. CDTFA sales tax audits are handled the same way. Unfiled returns If returns are missing, the IRS may file a substitute return for you that ignores your deductions. We prepare the late returns properly, file them, and use them as the starting point for everything else. IRS payment plans We set up installment agreements with the IRS and with the FTB, sized to what you can actually pay each month. A payment plan stops most collection action while you stay current on it. IRS penalty abatement Penalties for filing or paying late can often be removed. We request first-time abatement where you qualify and reasonable cause relief where something outside your control caused the problem. Offer in compromise We assess whether you are a real candidate before you spend money applying, and prepare the offer if you are. EA #112737Kathy Nguyen is licensed by the IRS as an Enrolled Agent, with the right to represent taxpayers before the IRS. IRS, FTB, CDTFAFederal income tax, California income tax and California sales tax problems handled by one office. Power of attorneyWith Form 2848 on file, the IRS contacts us, not you.…

Who Can Benefit From The Withholding Calculator? Employees who would like to change their withholding to reduce their tax refund or their balance due. Employees whose situations are only approximated by the worksheets on the paper W-4 (for example, anyone with concurrent jobs, or couples in which both are employed; those entitled to file as Head of Household; and those with several children eligible for the Child Tax Credit). Employees with non-wage income in excess of their adjustments and deductions, who would prefer to have tax on that income withheld from their paychecks rather than make periodic separate payments through the estimated tax procedures. **Content:**

There is a stage where an owner knows the business is doing fine but cannot say with confidence whether to hire, whether prices are right, or whether the cash will stretch through the slow season. A fractional CFO answers those questions with your numbers, a few hours a month, without the cost of a full-time finance hire. What the engagement looks like Monthly review Kathy sits down with you and the month’s results. What moved, why, and whether it matters. Margins by product or service line, labor as a share of sales, and the three numbers you should watch for your kind of business. Cash flow forecast A rolling forecast of what comes in and goes out over the next few months, updated each review, so a tight month is visible before it arrives. Decisions with numbers attached A new hire, a second location, a piece of equipment, a price change. We model the decision before you make it and tell you what has to be true for it to work. Financing and formation Lender-ready financial packages, business formation and entity setup, and planning conversations about living trusts, retirement and eventually stepping back from the business. Controller backgroundKathy spent eight years as a corporate controller before founding TT Tax in 2014. Monthly cadenceA standing review each month, plus the call when a decision comes up between reviews. Built on clean booksPairs with our bookkeeping so the numbers are always current. Tax-awareEvery recommendation is checked for its federal and California tax effect by an Enrolled Agent. How it works BaselineWe review the last twelve months, build the first cash flow forecast, and agree the handful of numbers that matter most for your business. Monthly reviewResults, forecast update, and whatever decision is on the table, with the numbers worked through. Between reviewsYou call when something comes up. A quote, a lease, an offer, a hire. We give you a straight answer. Who this is for Owner-run businesses roughly between half a million and a few million in revenue, where decisions have real money attached but a full-time CFO makes no sense. Restaurants opening a second location, trades businesses adding crews, practices taking on partners, and founders raising a loan for the first time. Most start with our bookkeeping service and add the CFO review once the books are reliable. Tax planning is usually part of the same conversation. Talk it through first A free consultation is enough to tell whether a fractional CFO would pay for itself in your business. Call (714) 462-8098 or use the form above.

**Content:**

California sales tax is a statewide rate plus district taxes that differ from one Orange County city to the next. Restaurants, retailers, contractors and online sellers all have different rules on what is taxable. We work it out from your books, file with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration on schedule, and handle the notices. What is included Returns filed on schedule Monthly, quarterly, quarterly with prepayments, or annual, depending on the frequency the CDTFA assigned you. We calendar every due date and file from reconciled figures, not estimates. Correct rates by location Garden Grove, Westminster, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and Los Angeles County cities each carry different combined rates. Sales are reported by location so district taxes land where they belong. Exemptions and resale certificates Resale and exemption certificates collected and kept on file, so exempt sales hold up if the CDTFA asks. Notices, audits and disputes If a letter arrives, we review it, pull the supporting records, and respond for you. Where the CDTFA has it wrong, we say so with the paperwork to prove it. From the booksSales tax is calculated from your reconciled sales, so the return matches your records. Every districtCombined rates applied correctly for each city you sell or deliver into. PrepaymentsQuarterly prepayment schedules tracked for higher-volume sellers. RepresentedNotices and audits handled by the team that keeps your books. How it works ReviewWe confirm your seller’s permit, filing frequency, locations and which of your sales are taxable. No permit yet? Start with our California seller’s permit guide. Monthly figuresTaxable and nontaxable sales come straight out of your bookkeeping, split by location. File and payWe prepare and file the CDTFA return and tell you exactly what to pay and when. Common sales tax problems we fix Charging one rate everywhere when deliveries cross district lines. Treating all restaurant sales the same when hot and cold items differ. Missing prepayments. Filing late because the reminder was in someone’s inbox. Exempt sales with no certificate on file. Each of these shows up on a CDTFA notice eventually, and each is avoidable with the figures coming from clean books. Sales tax is included for bookkeeping clients who collect it. Get your sales tax handled Send us your last return and a recent month of sales. We will tell you whether anything needs correcting and quote a flat fee. Call (714) 462-8098 or use the form above.

By the time a return is being prepared, almost every number on it is fixed. Tax planning is the work done before December 31, when choices about how you pay yourself, what you buy, and what you put away for retirement still change the outcome. What a planning engagement covers Entity and compensation review Sole proprietor, LLC or S corporation, and if S corporation, what a reasonable salary looks like against distributions. We run your real numbers both ways and show the difference in dollars. Estimated payments Quarterly federal and California estimates sized to the income you are actually earning, so you are neither underpaid and penalized nor lending the government money interest-free. Retirement and benefits SEP IRA, Solo 401(k), SIMPLE IRA and health-related deductions, chosen for your profit level and whether you have employees, with the contribution deadlines mapped out. Timing before year end Equipment purchases, prepaying expenses, collecting or deferring income, bonuses to staff, and the California-specific items that often get missed. Q3 startThe best time to plan is August to October, with a check-in before December. Earlier is fine. April is reporting, not planning. Written planYou get a one-page plan with the actions, the deadlines, and the estimated saving for each. Books requiredPlanning works from current books. If yours are behind, we bring them current first. EA-ledKathy Nguyen, IRS Enrolled Agent, prepares the plan and the return, so nothing is lost between the two. How it works ReviewWe take your year-to-date books and last year’s return and project where the year lands if nothing changes. OptionsWe model the handful of moves that matter for your situation and show each one’s effect on the federal and California bill. Action and follow-throughYou get the written plan. We set the estimated payments, and your bookkeeper (ours or yours) records the moves correctly so the return reflects them. Who benefits most Owners whose profit has grown past what they used to make as an employee, businesses still operating as a sole proprietorship at six figures of profit, anyone who received a large balance due or penalty last April, and owners planning a major purchase, a hire, or a change in how the business is structured. Planning pairs naturally with our monthly bookkeeping, which keeps the numbers current enough to plan from, and with tax preparation, where the plan turns into the return. Start with a free consultation Bring last year’s return and your current books, or whatever you have. We will tell you honestly whether planning would save you enough to be worth doing this year. A tax return is only as good as the person who signs it. Every return we prepare is reviewed and signed by Kathy Nguyen, an IRS Enrolled Agent in the profession since 2005, and if the IRS or the Franchise Tax Board sends a letter afterwards, she is the one who answers it. Returns we prepare Small business Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs (Schedule C), S corporations (1120-S), partnerships and multi-member LLCs (1065), and the California forms that go with each, including the LLC fee and franchise tax. Individuals and families Federal and California individual returns, including rental property, investment income, self-employment income and dependents. Many business owners have us prepare both the business and personal return so nothing falls between them. Prior years and catch-up Unfiled returns from earlier years, amended returns when something was missed, and getting current with the IRS and FTB before penalties grow. Notices and representation An Enrolled Agent can represent you before the IRS on audits, collections and appeals. If a notice arrives, send it to us. We read it, pull the records, and respond. EA #112737Kathy Nguyen is licensed by the IRS as an Enrolled Agent, the highest credential the IRS awards. Federal and CABoth returns prepared together, filed electronically, with the California specifics handled. 50 statesClients served in Southern California and across the country since 2005. Year-roundQuestions, estimated payments and notices handled in July as readily as in March. How it works ChecklistBook an appointment and we send a short list of what to gather: last year’s return, income forms, business reports, and any notices. Preparation and reviewWe prepare the return, check it against your books, and go through it with you line by line before anything is filed. Filed and on recordReturns are filed electronically. You get a copy, we keep a copy, and estimated payments for the coming year are set up if you need them. Business owners: your books decide your tax bill The biggest savings on a business return come from books that are categorized correctly all year, not from clever work in April. Clients on our monthly bookkeeping service arrive at tax season with the work already done. The return is faster to prepare, costs less, and claims everything it should. If you want to stop paying more than you owe, tax planning during the year is the next step. Book a tax appointment In person at 12112 Brookhurst St Ste 8, Garden Grove, or by phone and secure upload. Call (714) 462-8098 or send the form above and we will reply within one business day.

Most owners do not want to do their own books. They want to know, without digging, whether last month made money, whether the sales tax is handled, and whether anything is waiting to bite them at tax time. That is what our bookkeeping service delivers, every month, for small businesses across Garden Grove and Orange County. What is included each month Books kept current Every bank and credit card transaction is categorized and reconciled to the statement. Vendor bills, customer invoices and owner draws are recorded where they belong, so the balance sheet means something. We keep books in QuickBooks, so if you already use it we work in your file, and if you do not we set it up for you. A profit and loss report you can read One page. Revenue, cost of sales, expenses by category, net profit, compared to last month. If a number looks off, we say so in a short note rather than leaving you to find it. Sales tax filed If you collect California sales tax, we calculate what is due from the books, apply the right district rate for each city you sell in, and file your CDTFA return on your assigned schedule. See our sales tax filing page for the detail. Year-end review and reconciliation Before your return is prepared, Kathy Nguyen, EA, reviews the year. After the return is filed, the books are reconciled to it so both records match and next year starts clean. Since 2014Keeping books for Orange County small businesses, with industry experience going back to 2005. Enrolled AgentKathy Nguyen is licensed by the IRS to represent you in an audit. If we keep your books, we represent you. MonthlyReconciled books and a profit and loss report every month, not a pile to sort out in March. Fixed feeA monthly figure agreed up front, based on your transaction volume and the services you need. How it works Free consultationWe look at where your books stand today, what you collect and pay, and what you want to see each month. You get a fixed monthly fee and a start date. Setup and catch-upWe connect or collect your statements, set up the chart of accounts, and bring any behind months current so the first report is accurate. Monthly rhythmYou send statements and receipts. We reconcile, file sales tax, and send your profit and loss report with a short note on anything worth your attention. Who this is for Owner-run businesses with roughly one to twenty employees: restaurants and cafes, salons and barbers, auto shops, retail stores, contractors and trades, medical and dental practices, and professional services. If you have fallen behind, that is normal and fixable. Catch-up bookkeeping is where many of our client relationships start. Payroll and sales tax are usually part of the same engagement so the figures flow straight into the books. See payroll services if you have employees. Why an accountant at bookkeeping rates matters Many bookkeepers record transactions correctly and stop there. Our books…
