California sales tax is a statewide rate plus district taxes that differ from one Orange County city to the next. Restaurants, retailers, contractors and online sellers all have different rules on what is taxable. We work it out from your books, file with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration on schedule, and handle the notices.
What is included
Returns filed on schedule
Monthly, quarterly, quarterly with prepayments, or annual, depending on the frequency the CDTFA assigned you. We calendar every due date and file from reconciled figures, not estimates.
Correct rates by location
Garden Grove, Westminster, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and Los Angeles County cities each carry different combined rates. Sales are reported by location so district taxes land where they belong.
Exemptions and resale certificates
Resale and exemption certificates collected and kept on file, so exempt sales hold up if the CDTFA asks.
Notices, audits and disputes
If a letter arrives, we review it, pull the supporting records, and respond for you. Where the CDTFA has it wrong, we say so with the paperwork to prove it.
- From the booksSales tax is calculated from your reconciled sales, so the return matches your records.
- Every districtCombined rates applied correctly for each city you sell or deliver into.
- PrepaymentsQuarterly prepayment schedules tracked for higher-volume sellers.
- RepresentedNotices and audits handled by the team that keeps your books.
How it works
- ReviewWe confirm your seller’s permit, filing frequency, locations and which of your sales are taxable.
- Monthly figuresTaxable and nontaxable sales come straight out of your bookkeeping, split by location.
- File and payWe prepare and file the CDTFA return and tell you exactly what to pay and when.
Common sales tax problems we fix
Charging one rate everywhere when deliveries cross district lines. Treating all restaurant sales the same when hot and cold items differ. Missing prepayments. Filing late because the reminder was in someone’s inbox. Exempt sales with no certificate on file. Each of these shows up on a CDTFA notice eventually, and each is avoidable with the figures coming from clean books. Sales tax is included for bookkeeping clients who collect it.

Questions clients ask us
How often do I have to file sales tax in California?
The CDTFA assigns a filing frequency based on your sales volume: monthly, quarterly, quarterly with prepayments, or annually. We confirm your assigned frequency and set reminders so nothing is late.
Can you help with a CDTFA notice or audit?
Yes. We review the notice, pull the supporting records from your books, and respond on your behalf. If you also use our bookkeeping service, the records are already in order.
What if I sell in several cities?
District taxes vary across Orange County and Los Angeles County cities. We apply the correct combined rate for each location and report it on the right schedule of your return.
